Dear Parents,
Just to give you some information, regarding our sports events and training/practice and trials.
Football; We have completed 1/2 the, year 6, school team fixtures. We are currently top, by 3 points-all boys who attended trials and training have represented the school.
The remaining school fixtures (League) take place Feb/March next year. There is a boys Cup event-at J.M.O. on 26th Oct.
The year 5's are currently playing a "World Cup" football event, each week in P.E. It gives me a chance to see the pupils, without the pressure of a formal trial-we have sent two of the year 5 girls up to train with the year 6 girls squad. The Girls football team have a Cup event at J.M.O. on 19th Oct. and again 17th May.
Tag Rugby; Sam Botfield will be holding year 6 Tag rugby sessions, at lunchtimes, on Mondays-weather permitting-there are 4 Rugby events on 4 Saturdays throughout the year. We shall try to include the year 5's by the end of the year event. Year 4 and 6 are having Tag rugby in P.E. this term.
Athletics; We have 3 Indoor Athletic events; A year 5/6 event-18th Jan/ Year 3/4 event 25th Jan/ and firstly a year 2 (K.S.1) event 29th Nov. All events are at St. Bede's, the K.S.2. pupils shall complete a self assessment pentathlon/Heptathlon, and finally be invited for trial, prior to the events. Year 2 event is smaller and we shall select 8 pupils from P.E. sessions. It is possible for some year 3's to make the year 4 team and year 5's to make the year 6 team, we select pupils on merit.
X-Country; Year 5/6 Cross Country is on 12th Oct, the year 3/4 event in May- the venues are to be confirmed-possibly Burscough or Ormskirk High School. We practice cross country during P.E. and pupils, who complete the P.E. Session, are welcome to attend the events-as long as we have the transport (volunteers) to assist-we had teams of 34 and 54 at last years events. The races are separate for boys and girls, and the year groups split up-distances range from 3/4 to 1 mile.
Chess; We are currently holding Chess club, each lunchtime for years 3/4/5 and 6. The chess event is at St. Michael's school, Aughton-29th Jan. At the event we shall have 4 teams of 4-usually year 6, but good year 5 players can also attend. We shall hold chess after school, for those interested, when the dark nights prevent outside sport. Thanks Mr. Thomas.
