Dear Parents, I have given out letters to all year 5 Pupils who are interested in attending the District schools Triathlon, 29th June.
The event consists of a swim=1 1/2 lengths pool (45 Metres )
A cross country Bike ride-1 lap of Coronation Park field-at the back of Duck pond (400 M approx)
A cross country run-1 lap of same field (400 M approx)
The pupils will attend school in casual clothing-Tracksuit/Fleece-shorts etc. Under their clothing, they should already be wearing their P.E. kit and swim kit.
We shall walk to the venue from school-usually 9.00 am.
At Park pool, all pupils receive a box, to place their clothing-running kit in-and towel.
The box is taken down to the far end of the pool side-this is where pupils will exit the pool, and after their swim-
Pupils towel down lightly-if at all, and as in real Triathlon-put on running kit and trainers, over their wet swim suit.
The pupils exit the Baths-at rear door, round the Duck pond and then ride, 1 lap of Field-all equipment is supplied (bike/helmet)
After the bike ride, the pupils then run 1 lap of the field-to the finish.
We return to Baths for any items left in the box-towel-tracksuit etc.
We return to school in approx. 1 hour after we left, approx 10.15 am.
Once at school pupils can get changed and dried properly in the toilets, change swim suit for underwear and their school uniform.
We have attended this event for past 5 years, and have not had any issues or problems. We do not make the pupils attend, it is not compulsory, but we encourage the pupils to have a go, if they feel like. We have approx. 50 pupils wanting to attend.
The event is not timed or a race-friends can get together if they like, but there is no first, second etc.
The event is open to all District Primary schools, who all get their own time slot to attend-pupils enter the water one at a time-for safety.
I hope this gives you all the details you need-Parents can attend the Field events-ride and cycle, but not the swimming-it only lasts 15 minutes at the most.
Discuss the event with your child-all our welcome-as long as they can swim 1 1/2 lengths of the pool, and ride a bike.
Thanks Mr. Thomas.
