Dear Parents, I am handing out letters to those pupils in year 3 and 4 who would like to attend District cross country, and can run our 3/4 mile (3 laps of the school field) without stopping!
It is important that the pupils understand how hard cross country can be, especially when you are new to such an event. We ran the year 3's, over the distance, the last two weeks, and there were a lot of letters given out-very enthusiastic! (31)
Tomorrow is year 4's p.e. and they will be running the field, and letters will be given out. If these pupils want, they can bring in trainers for tomorrows lesson.
As some of year 4 ran the event last year, it should be a little easier for them, I also understand that some who qualify to run, may not want to do so-that is fine! We never put pressure on the pupils to attend.
I will also be asking for help with transport-last year we took 34 pupils to this event, and 44 to the year 5/6 event, we managed with help from parents to get everyone there and back. This is an open event-to all who can complete the course, we have not restricted the numbers, I will see the response to letters on Friday please!
I need to know how many pupils want to go, and how much help we have getting them there-it is stressful to organise, but very rewarding when you see how many children put the effort in-there were over 100 pupils in one of the year 4 races last year.
The event is at Tarleton High school, next Wednesday 3rd May-the start time is down for 4.00 pm, I have asked the organisers to put it back to 4.15 pm at the earliest, as we have a long way to travel. After the 1st event we will ask parents who want to leave to do so, as it is hard to get out at the end of the event.
I hope we will not have to turn pupils away, due to lack of transport, please return letters Friday. Thanks Mr. Thomas.
P.S. If you offer transport, you will be asked to complete a self-declaration form regarding vehicle documents etc. in the school office-thanks again!
